BBC Cult magazine

When creating the magazine it didn’t take as long because I used the same design as the bus for the tardis, meaning I didn’t have to recreate the whole design again taking up more time. However the most difficult part about the magazine was up in the top left corner. I had originally planned to have the earth there but after designing it I realised it looked too amateur and didn’t fit right. So instead I got the idea to make it look like a planet instead.

I did this by using the paint brush, changing the opacity starting with red then moving the size smaller and changing the colour from orange to yellow, this create a glare for the planet. Putting a black circle over half of it makes it seem like its further away adding the effect of the space and the tardis.

In my orginal design as well I was going to have BBC Cult written to the left of the tardis but when designing I noticed if fitted better underneath the tardis. It fits being the brightest on the page so it doesn’t take the focus away from the design being in the middle of it. Its also the last thing our eyes see and the most important, as we want people to see the design then see BBC Cult to go and check out the channel.

Darleks design

For the rest of the bus/darleks design I split the darlek into two parts, the balls and the base design. This was simple to do, just simply created a circle, and changed the gradient as seen below. To then add it some depth I added the white curve at the top of the circle by rubbing out the colour. This created a very simple ball, which could be added to all the darleks, created.

When creating the base for the darleks I struggled with creating all the aspects on photoshop, so instead I decided to go down the same route as when I made the Tardis by tracing it out so all parts would be even. The rest of the darlek was very simple by just simply finding the right colour and gradient to create the 3d look of the darlek. Because I only had to do the bottom half it didn’t take as long as the tardis.

Tardis design

For the design of my bus I first started off creating a tardis, which I traced over to get the design correct.
I first made the whole design a darkish colour from my mind maps that I had already picked out. Then I had to make the Tardis look textured and like it had ridges on, I did this by taking pictures of wood, such as the doors and desks around college.

One in Photoshop I changed their levels so the ridges are darker and stand out more. Depending on the kind of picture I’ve chosen depends on the levels I changed too, as some were already dark enough. I then changed the colour to black and white and copy the image into the original design. Shaped it to fit the square I needed to fit. Creating it on a different layer so I can easily adjust it if I need too.

Once over the original image I changed the style to overlay, this blended the square in with the original, changing the colour to a be shaded a little and leaving the tardis looking like it has depth on the doors instead of being a flat image.

I repeated this using different kind of pictures of the wood to create different textures; this formed the basic textured design for the tardis.
